Ultrasound developer SuperSonic Imagine has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance for its Aixplorer ultrasound scanner.
Aixplorer features SuperSonic's MultiWave technology, which is based on interaction between conventional longitudinal waves and shear waves in tissue, according to the vendor. Utilizing a software-based architecture, the system provides both B-mode images and display of tissue stiffness or elasticity information using shear waves, SuperSonic of Aix en Provence, France, said.
MultiWave also supports TissueTuner, a tool that allows the user to adjust the system's parameters to accurately match the speed of sound in the tissue being imaged. Aixplorer can also acquire data at speeds of up to 20,000 Hz, according to the firm.
The company said it will now begin marketing and delivering the system in the U.S.
