SonoSite revenues, profits fall in Q3

U.S. revenue levels continued to stabilize, but compact-ultrasound developer SonoSite experienced a few order delays in its international business in the third quarter (end-September 30).

As a result, the Bothell, WA-based company posted a revenue decrease of 13% to $53.6 million in the third quarter of 2009, compared with revenue of $61.6 million in the third quarter of 2008. The company also recorded a net loss of $240,000 in the third quarter, compared with net income of $3.7 million in the same quarter a year ago.

For the nine months of 2009, revenue was $157.7 million, a decrease of 9% compared with $173.3 million in the same period of 2008. Net income slipped to $1 million, compared with $5.3 million in the same period a year ago.

Overall revenue for the quarter included $3 million for the third quarter and the nine-month period from recently acquired CardioDynamics International (CDIC). SonoSite's net loss was due, in part, to $3.1 million in charges related to the CDIC acquisition.

SonoSite expects revenues to total $225 to $230 million in 2009.
