Toshiba America Medical Systems of Tustin, CA, has received clearance for its portable laptop ultrasound system from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Viamo allows clinicians to image patients at bedside with a portable unit rather than a cart-based system. It can be used for radiology, vascular, emergency, bariatric, and ob/gyn exams and includes a touchscreen interface programmable in panel or tablet modes. Users can also interchange Toshiba transducers with Viamo's transportation pole, Toshiba said.
