TechniScan begins phase II warm bath US study

Breast ultrasound imaging developer TechniScan of Salt Lake City has begun phase II of its grant study for its warm bath ultrasound (WBU) system at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Moores Cancer Center.

The system is designed to garner 3D breast images while a woman lies prone on a table and ultrasound technology is used in a warm water tank to image the breast's anatomy.

Funded by a grant from the National Cancer Institute, the study will enroll approximately 130 women with various types of breast lesions. The 12-month study will compare the warm bath US system to conventional breast sonography, and examine the system's ability to differentiate between normal, benign, and malignant breast tissue.
