Revenues for compact ultrasound systems sold in the U.S. in 2010 grew by 21% compared to sales in 2009, according to a new report from Klein Biomedical Consultants.
Compact ultrasound revenues reached $276 million last year, and the consulting firm anticipates continued robust growth of these systems in the foreseeable future. The firm predicted that revenues from the smallest compact systems, handheld units, will reach $78 million in the U.S. market in 2015.
Klein forecasted that the global market for ultrasound units weighing less than 14 lb will grow to reach $1.1 billion in 2015. U.S. growth is estimated to be 13%, with growth of rest-of-world markets at 10%.
In other report findings, Klein said that SonoSite has 42% market share, followed by GE Healthcare and Philips Healthcare. Collectively, these firms have an overall market share of 78%.
