GE unveils Voluson S-Series US scanner

GE Healthcare has debuted its Voluson Signature Series (S-Series) of ultrasound scanners for ob/gyn offices and departments.

Available now in the U.S., Voluson S8 and Voluson S6 both feature SonoNT, a semiautomated tool to provide quantitative nuchal translucency measurements as early as 11 weeks of gestation. GE has also included SonoAVCfollicle, which automatically calculates the number and volume of hypoechoic structures from a user-defined region of interest.

A third feature, SonoVCADlabor, automatically documents second-stage labor progression, enabling measurements of fetal head progression, rotation, and direction, according to the vendor.

Voluson S8 also offers additional capabilities for detailed fetal cardiac assessment, including viewing 3D heart images in motion as well as an entire fetal heart cycle. SonoVCADheart provides a single-button view of the six recommended volumetric images of the fetal heart, while an anatomical M-Mode is designed to improve the accuracy of arrhythmia assessments and other cardiac measurements, GE said.

GE also pointed to the ergonomic features of the S-Series, including its use of a reduced number of keystrokes and manipulations per exams. Users can also adjust the monitor, console height, and angle. In addition, the systems are compact and small enough to slide under a bed, GE said.
