Ultrasound vendor Ultrasonix Medical plans to demonstrate a new automated breast ultrasound (ABUS) scanner that can capture high-resolution images of the breast in two to four minutes at the upcoming American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) meeting in Chicago.
Called SonixEmbrace, the scanner is five times faster and is less prone to imaging variations caused by differences in scanning methods, according to the company. The system uses a concave ultrasound transducer that rotates 360° to capture uncompressed breast images.
SonixEmbrace is integrated with the company's research platform and is well-suited for research on cancer detection and treatment monitoring. It can also be used with reconstructed B-mode ultrasound planes. Data from the system can also be integrated with CT and MRI data for a more complete picture of the breast.
