Medical device developer Teleflex announced that its Arrow VPS G4 device for catheter line placement has received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Arrow VPS uses micro-Doppler ultrasound technology in combination with intravascular electrocardiography to locate the lower third of the superior vena cava and cavo-atrial junction for placing the tip of a peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC).
It is designed to provide clinicians with real-time information to improve the accuracy of PICC placement, according to the firm.
The device is used with the disposable Arrow VPS Stylet and will be available for sale in the U.S. during the second quarter of 2013.
