FDA clears SuperSonic probes

French ultrasound technology developer SuperSonic Imagine has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance for two new probes used with its Aixplorer ultrasound system.

The SHL20-6 probe facilitates musculoskeletal and sports medicine diagnoses. The high-frequency transducer is shaped like a hockey stick and provides high-resolution images of muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints, the firm said.

The other probe is the single crystal XP5-1 transducer, which combines high sensitivity and enhanced resolution to visualize very low blood flow, an important feature for optimal transcranial Doppler and abdominal vascular measurements, the company noted.
