Coronary imaging technology developer Infraredx plans to launch a new system at the upcoming American College of Cardiology (ACC) meeting in San Diego.
The company will highlight its new Advanced TVC (true vessel characterization) imaging system and its Muller NIRS-IVUS (near-infrared spectroscopy/intravascular ultrasound) catheter. The new system is the only technology cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) capable of rapidly and specifically identify lipid-core plaques, which are known to complicate stenting procedures and are suspected to cause most heart attacks, according to the firm.
The new system also includes Infraredx's proprietary Extended Bandwidth IVUS technology, which produces an image of the complete vessel that allows for easy identification of the lumen, plaque, and vessel structure.
