Clinical trial imaging services provider VirtualScopics is collaborating with a large pharmaceutical firm on an epidemiology study in Africa.
The philanthropic study aims to identify children with rheumatic heart disease, and it will include echocardiograms from 3,000 children from 50 schools in Lusaka, Zambia, according to the firm.
Working with VirtualScopics, Rochester, NY-based cardiac sonographer Joseph Oliveri will help train Zambian staff on how to use portable, handheld echocardiography scanners and will assist in the initial screening efforts, the company said.
