Free PDF on sonographer pain | X-ray of voodoo dolls | Efficiency tips

Dear AuntMinnie Member,

For the past five years, sonographer Doug Wuebben and strength and fitness coach Mark Roozen have been offering advice on AuntMinnie.com to sonographers on how to correct movement problems that can lead to job-related pain and discomfort. We've now collected their wisdom into a single PDF volume that can be downloaded for free.

"How to train movement to live, work, and play pain free" is a comprehensive guide of 17 articles that address the gamut of work-related issues that sonographers might encounter. Each article includes strategies for alleviating job-related pain, such as exercises that can be performed in just a few minutes a day. Download the PDF in our Ultrasound Community by clicking here.

When you've finished downloading the PDF, check out our latest Wuebben/Rozy article -- part 5 in their series on addressing sonographer back pain. This installment focuses on the quadratus lumborum muscle; you might not know what it is, but it could be causing your back pain. Learn more by clicking here.

Finally, don't leave the community without reading a new article on a study with disturbing implications. Researchers have found that, in a few rare cases, compression ultrasound exams for deep vein thrombosis led to pulmonary embolism. That story is available by clicking here, or visit the community at ultrasound.auntminnie.com.

X-ray of voodoo dolls

You've heard of imaging equipment being used to scan mummies, but what about voodoo dolls? Researchers from France have produced a pictorial review in which x-ray was used to provide fascinating insights into the Haitian practice.

The group examined seven Haitian voodoo dolls -- called "ouangas" -- with a flat-panel digital radiography system. The images revealed a variety of items found inside the dolls, ranging from needles to staples and even a zipper.
