Signostics gets FDA clearance for urologic ultrasound

Handheld ultrasound provider Signostics said it has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for its Uscan ultrasound visualization device for urology. The company will showcase the product at this week's American Urological Association meeting (AUA 2016) in San Diego.

Using computer vision algorithms, Uscan actively recognizes the 3D contours of the bladder to acquire volume measurements that exceed industry standards for accuracy, Signostics said. Acquisition of up to 256 bladder slices, 32 times more than conventional scanners, provides the higher accuracy compared to other modalities, the company said.

Besides the bladder, Uscan also provides real-time imaging of the kidneys, pelvic floor, prostate, gallbladder stones, and catheter placement for easy visual tracking and observation, according to Signostics.

Uscan has a removable probe, high-resolution touchscreen tablet, and handheld display to facilitate clinical care. The device is compatible with Android operating systems, and it has built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity that enables fast and reliable image management and interoperability with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
