Clarius Mobile Health has released an ultrahigh frequency, handheld ultrasound scanner called Clarius L20 HD.
The device was designed to offer high image quality from the skin line to 4 cm, and it has a frequency range of 8 MHz to 20 MHz. It is intended for applications such as musculoskeletal, rheumatology, podiatry, plastic surgery, microsurgery, pediatric anesthesia, and line placement imaging.

Clarius L20 HD has been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and has the CE Mark for the European Union. It retails for $6,900, much less than traditional cart systems that can sell for $35,000, the company said.
