A surgeon in Ontario, CA, has received an 18-month suspension for directing a female ultrasound technician to perform a testicular exam on him, according to a decision posted September 1 by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

Biagio Innantuono, MD, a general surgeon in Bracebridge, took advantage of his position at a hospital to arrange for a female ultrasound technician to perform an intimate procedure on him in an inappropriate manner, according to the College. Innantuono reportedly ignored the technician's directions on appropriate draping and physical contact and effectively forced her to view and touch his penis several times.

At the tribunal hearing, Iannantuono admitted that his actions constituted professional misconduct, the College said. The penalty includes extensive terms relating to professional education, therapy, notification to patients, and monitoring.
