Bracco Group subsidiary Bracco Imaging and Burl Concepts have entered a strategic partnership focused on diagnosing and treating stroke patients.
San Diego, CA-based Burl manufactures portable battery-powered ultrasound devices for noninvasive and transcranial diagnosis of strokes. Under the agreement, Bracco will manufacture a microbubble solution for use with Burl’s Sonas device, a system designed for assessing blood perfusion in the brain, which is key for diagnosing ischemic stroke.
Currently, Sonas is CE-marked and is in clinical use in multiple academic centers in Germany. The company has submitted an application for an investigational device exemption from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, with clinical trials expected to launch in early 2025, according to Bracco Imaging.
