CTI acquires Bales Scientific

Computerized Thermal Imaging has acquired fellow thermal imaging developer Bales Scientific. Layton, UT-based CTI acquired the firm, including equipment, order backlog, and all intellectual property in a cash and stock deal. Terms were not released.

Founded in 1977, Bales designs, manufactures, and sells high-resolution, dynamic, digital infrared imaging workstations and related products for both medical and industrial applications. Medical applications for Bales' equipment include imaging of circulatory, neurological, and soft-tissue abnormalities. The company has also been working in breast cancer imaging, according to CTI.

CTI is seeking Food and Drug Administration approval for the use of its Computerized Thermal Imaging System as an adjunctive diagnostic test to mammography and clinical examination for the detection of breast cancer. In recent weeks, CTI received a $5 million investment from information management technology firm Informix.
