Computer-aided detection provider R2 Technology has formed a relationship with peripheral and breast ultrasound developer U-Systems to explore the use of CAD technology in breast ultrasound screening. U-Systems, founded in 1998, showcased its work-in-progress USI-Nova ultrasound system in R2’s booth at last week’s RSNA meeting.
Pending Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance, USI-Nova includes color Doppler, a standard 12-6 MHz transducer, Mx (Advanced Compound) imaging, ROI-locator for suspicious masses, and 3-D image rendering capability, according to Los Altos, CA-based USI. The company's founder, Bob Wang, also started Los Altos-based R2.
In other R2 news, Eastman Kodak of Rochester, NY, has expanded its relationship with R2 by making an equity investment in the company. The size of the equity investment was not disclosed. Kodak is integrating R2's software into its computed radiography and digital radiography systems.
