Agfa HealthCare and Hologic have signed a letter of intent to jointly develop an integrated full-field digital mammography (FFDM) system. The letter provides for reciprocal distribution rights of Bedford, MA-based Hologic's amorphous selenium-based digital mammography system and Agfa's image management systems and workstations.
Mortsel, Belgium-based Agfa and Hologic plan to combine a digital mammography system with PACS, workstation, data acquisition, and hard-copy readout. Hologic will manufacture for Agfa a private-label FFDM system, which will be integrated with Agfa's image and information management systems.
Hologic will also gain access to Agfa's Musica image processing software. The vendors expect to finalize the agreements over the next several months.
The relationship is the second major FFDM alliance for Hologic. The vendor is also supplying its amorphous selenium flat-panel detectors to Siemens Medical Solutions, which is incorporating the detectors into its digital mammography systems.
