Hologic and Siemens Medical Solutions have formalized their planned digital mammography alliance, announced in a letter of intent in November 2001. The firms have signed three separate agreements.
In a five-year deal, Siemens of Iselin, NJ, and Erlangen, Germany, will exclusively source the Bedford, MA-based vendor's DirectRay flat-panel detector technology for its full-field digital mammography (FFDM) system. In addition, Hologic will license image processing and display software developed by Siemens affiliate MeVis Breast Care. Finally, Hologic will provide support to Siemens to accelerate the commercialization schedule its FFDM system, including the right to refer to Hologic's pre-market approval (PMA) applications, the vendors said.
