R2 Technology of Sunnyvale, CA, has been selected as the exclusive provider of computer-aided detection technology for the European Union-sponsored SCREEN trial (Soft-Copy Reading Environment) project. The SCREEN trial aims to develop a soft-copy reading protocol that can replace film-based reading in screening mammography programs.
Seven university hospitals in France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Norway, and Sweden will be participating. R2 said its CAD technology would be used to assist radiologists by marking areas of interest on the mammogram.
These areas would be captured and archived to a test version of a soft-copy reading system developed by MeVis BreastCare. R2 said it would also provide digitization of prior mammograms and DICOM conversion services for those images.
