The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) has published two new test standards developed by the medical diagnostic imaging industry that provide templates for a consistent presentation format and a minimum set of quality control tests that should be included as part of the quality assurance plans of displays, workstations, and hard-copy output devices labeled for final interpretation in an full-field digital mammography (FFDM) system.
According to the Rosslyn, VA-based industry group, the new test standards include:
- XR 22-2006, "Quality Control Manual" Template for Manufacturers of Displays and Workstations Labeled for Final Interpretation in Full-Field Digital Mammography
- XR 23-2006, "Quality Control Manual" Template for Manufacturers of Hard-Copy Output Devices Labeled for Final Interpretation in Full-field Digital Mammography.
The American College of Radiology said the standards will serve an important role until its FFDM QC plan is completed. The ACR said it is working with NEMA representatives on the development of that plan.
The standards are available online, free of charge. Hard copy versions may be purchased for $56 each, NEMA said. The XR 22-2006 document can be downloaded from www.nema.org/stds/xr22.cfm; the XR 23-2006 may be downloaded at www.nema.org/stds/xr23.cfm.
