Sectra posts strong Q1

Swedish technology developer Sectra reported solid growth in revenues and operating profit in its medical division in the company's fiscal 2006 first quarter (end-July 31).

For the period, Sectra's medical systems unit reported sales of 120.6 million kronor ($16.6 million U.S.), a 39.9% upsurge compared with the 86.2 million kronor ($11.7 million) posted in the prior-year period. The division's operating profit grew 22.2% to 8.8 million kronor ($1.2 million), compared with an operating profit of 7.2 million kronor ($991,000) the year before.

The Linköping-based firm noted that data acquisition was complete for a U.S. clinical study of its MicroDose Mammography digital mammography system. The company said that the clinical study will be the basis of an application with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to sell the product in the U.S.
