The Senate plans to hold a hearing to investigate the recent U.S. Preventive Services Task Force's (USPSTF) recommendations that mammography screening for women begin biennially at 50, according to the American College of Radiology (ACR).
Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA) of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee announced the plan. The ACR is lobbying the committee to allow a representative from the organization to testify at the hearing.
This week, 22 senators wrote a letter to Harkin asking that the committee investigate the situation and dispel the confusion caused by USPSTF's recommendations, the Reston, VA-based ACR said.
