Hologic turns a profit in fiscal 2011

Growth in all four of its operating segments buoyed women's imaging firm Hologic to higher revenues and profit in fiscal 2011 (end-September 24).

For the fiscal year, revenues increased 6.5% to $1.79 billion, compared with $1.68 billion in sales in fiscal 2010. Hologic posted net income of $157.2 million, compared with a net loss of $62.8 million in the last fiscal year.

In the fourth fiscal quarter, Hologic's revenues totaled $467 million, a 9% gain from $428.3 million in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2010. The company also posted net income of $27.6 million, compared with a net loss of $137 million in the same quarter of last fiscal year.

Fourth-quarter revenues in the company's Breast Health business increased to $219.1 million, compared with $197.7 million for the same period in fiscal 2010, an increase of 10.9%.
