Growth in all four of its operating segments buoyed women's imaging firm Hologic to higher revenues and profit in fiscal 2011 (end-September 24).
For the fiscal year, revenues increased 6.5% to $1.79 billion, compared with $1.68 billion in sales in fiscal 2010. Hologic posted net income of $157.2 million, compared with a net loss of $62.8 million in the last fiscal year.
In the fourth fiscal quarter, Hologic's revenues totaled $467 million, a 9% gain from $428.3 million in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2010. The company also posted net income of $27.6 million, compared with a net loss of $137 million in the same quarter of last fiscal year.
Fourth-quarter revenues in the company's Breast Health business increased to $219.1 million, compared with $197.7 million for the same period in fiscal 2010, an increase of 10.9%.
Rob Cascella, Hologic's president and CEO, credited contributions from the company's acquisitions and continued early interest in Hologic's Dimensions 3D digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) mammography system for its growth and profit in fiscal year 2011.
