Philips Healthcare said that the 2012 Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) annual meeting is highlighting Asha Jyoti, a collaborative mobile women's healthcare outreach program established by Rad-Aid International, Philips, and the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) of Chandigarh.
Asha Jyoti, which means "ray of hope" in Hindi and Punjabi, is being featured in the Champions of Action plenary session at the CGI meeting in New York City. The program provides screenings for cervical cancer, osteoporosis, and breast cancer, as well as follow-up care, Philips said.
Established as a model for preventive healthcare for semiurban and rural areas in India, Asha Jyoti features a special mobile outreach van equipped with imaging technology and clinical referral services, Philips said. The five-year program was launched in 2010 to reach thousands of underserved women in Northern India every year.
Rad-Aid is also providing educational and program planning support to health workers and staff via onsite as well as online approaches, according to Philips. The organization also plans to launch an online portal in collaboration with the Philips Learning Center to facilitate online radiology learning activities.
