A nearly 15% increase in service revenue from digital mammography systems was among the contributors to revenue gains for women's imaging vendor Hologic in its fiscal fourth quarter.
For the period (end-September 30), Hologic had revenue of $588.5 million, up 26% from the $467 million reported in the fourth quarter of 2011. The fourth-quarter results included revenue of $89.5 million from its acquisition of Gen-Probe.
Service revenue primarily related to its installed base of digital mammography systems climbed $10.5 million, or 14.5%, during the quarter.
Affected by noncash charges, interest expenses, and acquisition-related costs, Hologic had a net loss of $77.8 million in the quarter, compared with net income of $27.6 million reported in the same period last year.
For the year, Hologic had revenue of $2 billion, up from the $1.8 billion reported in 2011. The company had a net loss for the year of $73.6 million, compared with net income of $157.2 million a year ago.
