Mo. governor signs breast density bill into law

The governor of Missouri has signed a breast density reporting bill into law.

Gov. Jay Nixon signed the bill on June 30 in Joplin, making Missouri the 19th state to implement a law requiring breast density notification. The law states that starting on January 1, 2015, breast density information must be included in mammography reporting results sent to patients.

The bill was introduced during the current legislative session after a similar bill introduced in 2010 failed to proceed to a full chamber vote. Missouri resident Lori Jackson told legislators of her battle with a missed breast cancer in the earlier session but passed away in October 2012, according to the public advocacy group Are You Dense.
