Noted breast radiologist Dr. Ellen Shaw de Paredes died on August 30.
De Paredes died at the age of 62 after a battle with endometrial cancer, according to an article on the website of television station WWBT of Richmond, VA.
De Paredes was a pioneer in breast imaging and was active in teaching and giving lectures on mammography, both in the U.S. and internationally. In 2005, she set up her own breast imaging practice, the Ellen Shaw de Paredes Institute for Women's Imaging, in Glen Allen, VA. She recently completed the third edition of her textbook, the Atlas of Film-Screen Mammography.
De Paredes is survived by her husband, mother, and sister, according to WWBT.
