Hologic launches new breast stabilization system

Women's imaging firm Hologic has launched a new breast stabilization system to be used with its Genius 3D Mammography exam.

Called SmartCurve, the system is designed to address concerns that women have about discomfort during mammography exams. Hologic noted that breast pain experienced during mammograms is related to how much time is spent under compression and the pressure distribution on the breast.

SmartCurve features a curved surface that helps reduce pinching and allows better distribution of force over the entire breast, as well as image processing algorithms that safeguard image quality and accuracy, according to the firm.

The SmartCurve system is available standard on Hologic's new 3Dimensions mammography system, and it's available as an upgrade to existing Hologic Selenia Dimensions systems installed in the field.
