Artificial intelligence (AI) software firm DeepHealth, the University of Washington, and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) have received a $4.5 million research grant from the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) to bring AI to mammography.
DeepHealth will provide its digital breast tomosynthesis AI software for breast cancer screening with features that include data science and imaging analysis. The trio then will evaluate the software through a series of studies using experienced and inexperienced radiologists from academic and community practices to determine the benefit of AI in the clinical setting.
The company is working with principal investigator Dr. Christoph Lee from the University of Washington to validate the AI-mammography connection using the UCLA's population-based breast imaging registry, the Athena Breast Health Network.
