Dear X-Ray Insider,
We've been enjoying our own version of March Madness here at AuntMinnie.com in the weeks since our last newsletter. Yes, we're conference champions of a sort, traveling to medical meetings around the world to bring you more information. Here's some of what we've learned on the road.
From the European Congress of Radiology in Vienna, Austria, we got the latest take on the value of the radial head-capitellum view in elbow x-ray. At the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons meeting in Washington, DC, we heard that routine x-rays offer little after a lumbar spine fusion.
And at the Digital X-Ray and PACS forum in Scottsdale, AZ, we reported on new research showing CR is more cost-effective than DR.
At the American College of Cardiology meeting in Orlando, one of the big media stories was about a new skin test that may identify subclinical atherosclerosis. In a similar vein, a new article in the journal Stroke suggests panoramic radiography could screen for plaque in the carotid arteries.
Unrealistic perhaps. But at the very least, the authors have confirmed that periodontal bone loss on x-rays is associated with increased carotid plaque thickness on Doppler US. If you're interested in how radiography is revealing this relationship between dental and vascular health, check out our latest X-Ray Insider Exclusive.
You'll find additional stories on the clinical and business aspects of radiography below. And as always, I welcome your feedback and story suggestions.
