FIGURE 1.4.3 Small bowel lipomas. Contrast-enhanced CT (
A) and EGD (
B) images from two different patients
show small bowel lipomas with a similar pedunculated appearance. 3D endoluminal small bowel image from CT colonography
(
C) and capsule endoscopy image (
D) from two different patients show small bowel lipomas that were incidentally
detected. CT images (
E and
F) from a symptomatic patient show small bowel obstruction from ileocecal intussusception.
The rounded fat attenuation lead point (
E, arrowhead) represents an ileal lipoma. Because of the presence of fat
attenuation, CT is generally diagnostic for lipomas.
