NYU Langone Medical Center has partially reopened as of Thursday, offering inpatient services at Tisch Hospital and Schwartz Health Care Center in Manhattan, as well as specialty services including diagnostic imaging and interventional radiology within these facilities.
The basement and ground floor of the hospital were flooded on October 29, the result of a storm surge in lower Manhattan during Hurricane Sandy. The hospital was closed and its patients evacuated that night to other area hospitals.
NYU Langone's Hospital for Joint Diseases, Center for Musculoskeletal Care, Clinical Cancer Center, and other offsite facilities, including outpatient radiology facilities, remained open.
The hospital's emergency department remains closed, with no date yet set for its reopening. It was in the initial stage of major construction and expansion, and because it was located on the ground floor, it was severely damaged during the hurricane.
