Top 10 stories from ISMRM 2023

Dear AuntMinnie Member,

MRI is a dynamic and effective tool for patient care, and the recent annual meeting of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) in Toronto showcased the modality's many uses. AuntMinnie.com editors were on site, covering a range of research -- from how MRI can streamline radiology department workflow to its leading-edge applications.

Our most highly-viewed article from the meeting described research that found that ultrafast MRI can cut dementia diagnosis time by more than 60%, while our second most-read story highlighted how MRI shows that women who undergo chemotherapy for breast cancer appear to be at higher risk of cognitive health challenges.

Our third most popular report described how MRI can visualize brain changes in past cannabis users, followed closely by one of our conference videos, this one with Lawrence Tanenbaum, MD, of radiology services provider RadNet, who discussed the use of AI with MRI.

In our fifth most-perused article, researchers described an MRI technique poised to enter the clinical arena called zero echo-time (ZTE), a sequence that visualizes tissues such as bone with the shortest T2 values and delivers images with a CT-like appearance. Sixth on our Top 10 list for the meeting was a video with Thoralf Niendorf, PhD, of Berlin Ultra High Field facility at Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in Germany, who outlined the merits of ultrahigh-field MRI.

Other stories making our Top 10 list included coverage on how MRI proved a valuable asset for the care of racers in Spain's 2022 Moto Grand Prix, how the modality illuminates ties between HIV therapy and the deposition of adipose tissue, how AI can improve musculoskeletal MRI, and how the interpretation of multiparametric MRI data varies among radiologists.
