Vital Images gets FDA OK for calcium scoring option

3-D and calcium scoring software developer Vital Images has announced that it has received Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance for a new option to its VScore coronary artery calcium scoring software.

Called VScore with EKG Gate, the option is designed to offer enhanced measurement capabilities and better utilization of image data captured from helical CT scanners, including systems developed by GE Medical Systems, according to Minneapolis-based Vital Images. By matching cardiac CT images with EKG signals and automatically identifying the images with the least motion, VScore offers improved scoring accuracy, according to the firm.

In other product news, Vital Images has also unveiled the latest version of VScore, which includes enhancements such as risk-factor information in a standard format; new tools to compare scores to a standardized population; and more detailed reports for assessment by referring physicians. Both the new version of VScore and VScore with EKG Gate are available for purchase immediately.
