Actuality nets 3-D patents

Three-dimensional-software developer Actuality Systems has received patents for its spatial 3-D technology in the U.S. and Taiwan. The patents (U.S. patent 6,554,430/ Taiwan Letters patent 162199) broadly describe a volumetric 3-D display system and specifically cover unique optics for Actuality's Perspecta display, according to the Burlington, MA-based vendor. They also cover the use of a rotating projection lens for high-fidelity spatial 3-D imagery, Actuality said.

Perspecta consists of a 360º spatial display and associated software that enables users to render high-resolution images that can be viewed from any angle as the user moves around the display. The technology can be used for viewing CT, PET, and MR data. Actuality displayed the technology at this year’s Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) meeting in San Diego.
