ADAC forms alliance with RaySearch

ADAC Laboratories has signed an exclusive agreement with RaySearch Laboratories of Stockholm, Sweden, to jointly develop next-generation inverse planning intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) software. The software, which will be integrated into ADAC’s Pinnacle3 3-D radiation treatment planning system, will be based on optimization of radiation therapy beams by iterative technique (ORBIT).

Under development by the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm since 1985, ORBIT software is capable of handling complex problems such as the simultaneous optimization of intensity modulation and radiation beam directions using both physical and biological treatment objectives, according to Milpitas, CA-based ADAC. The company believes these qualities will enable physicians to provide more aggressive and precise therapies with ORBIT than with current IMRT treatments.
