MRI vendor Fonar of Melville, NY said it has signed a letter of intent to enter into an agreement with Viatronix to sell and market Viatronix virtual colonoscopy products. The Viatronix technology, developed at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, uses CT scan data to render a 3-D view of the interior of the colon. Fonar’s HMCA physician and diagnostic services management subsidiary hopes to install the first unit at its Garden City, NY MRI center.
The agreement may also open the door for applying the technology for MR applications. The two firms said they may later explore the possibility of forming a joint venture to apply Stony Brook, NY-based Viatronix’s technology to MR scanners.
