GE Medical Systems is continuing its push into image-guided surgery. Just days after announcing its intent to buy electromagnetic image-guided surgery systems developer Visualization Technology (VTI), the Waukesha, WI-based vendor completed its acquisition of orthopedic image-guided surgery software developer Surgical Insights.
The deal, along with the planned purchase of VTI, will allow GE to offer a range of minimally invasive surgery products for orthopedic surgeons, said Ruben Berumen, GE's general manager for global surgery and vascular imaging. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Evanston, IL-based Surgical Insights said it would integrate its orthopedic applications into VTI's platform upon completion of the acquisition.
