DePuy Synthes Companies has launched a new portable spine imaging system that allows surgeons to confirm proper placement of implants during surgery.
The Kick system includes DePuy's FluoroExpress software module and has been released by DePuy Synthes Spine. The company collaborated with image-guided therapy firm Brainlab on the system, which helps surgeons track in real-time instruments and implants relative to patient anatomy.
The system features a portable infrared camera with a computer and monitor, and it can move easily between operating rooms as well as work with existing x-ray equipment, according to the firm. Kick is compatible with DePuy Synthes' Viper and Expedium spine implants.
The company is highlighting Kick at the North American Spine Society (NASS) meeting, which is underway in Boston.
