Austrian software developer Media Studio Graz has launched VoluMedic, a medical software product based on LightWave 3D, a commercial 3D graphics application.
VoluMedic is available as a plug-in for existing users of LightWave 3D, which was developed by NewTek of San Antonio, TX, and is used in industries as diverse as film, television, print, and gaming. Media Studio Graz sees the software as being appropriate for medical visualization, material science, forensic animation, and astronomy, as well as for creating visual effects.
VoluMedic allows animators to turn a sequence of images into a volumetric object that can then be volume-rendered. The software can import data from imaging modalities like MRI, SPECT, PET, CT, ultrasound, and digital microscopy, and supports the DICOM standard. The application also includes tools for image manipulation and processing.
VoluMedic is being offered in collaboration with Safe Harbor Computers of Waukesha, WI, and NGC of Japan.
