Mercury Computer Systems has signed a three-year agreement to provide a range of PACS technology to digital imaging systems distributor Genesis Digital Imaging.
Los Angeles-based Genesis will offer Mercury's Visage PACS line under its Omni-Web PACS brand to dealers and distributors in the North American market. Genesis said it also plans to combine a desktop computed radiography system from Eastman Kodak Health Group of Rochester, NY, with Mercury's Visage Web-PACS server.
In other Mercury news, the Chelmsford, MA-based firm has entered into a strategic alliance with the Institute of Medical Physics (IMP) of Erlangen, Germany. The two organizations will jointly develop and commercialize medical imaging technology deployed on the Cell Broadband Engine (BE) processor.
Under the deal, Mercury is working with IMP to design and implement reconstruction and visualization algorithms. Together with IMP technology, Mercury will integrate the algorithms into Cell BE processor-based systems designed to accelerate reconstruction and visualization of medical imaging data for OEMs, according to the firm.
Mercury said that preliminary results have shown that Cell BE speeds up CT reconstruction by a factor of 100.
