Barco showcases new products, deals at RSNA

Image display and advanced visualization firm Barco of Kortrijk, Belgium, has debuted its AVT advanced visualization software, as well as a new 6-megapixel color LCD display, at this week's RSNA 2007 meeting in Chicago.

AVT offers access to volumetric studies anytime, anywhere, even remotely, according to Barco. The thin-client application enables users to access advanced visualization tools with a standard PC and network connection or broadband service. It is also ideal for large, multisite hospitals or hospital groups with its fully scalable high-performance server architecture.

Various AVT software packages will be available for CT, MR, PET, and angiography, as well as cardiac studies. AVT will be released in the second quarter of 2008, according to the company.

During RSNA 2007, Barco also announced an exclusive collaboration with Hitachi Displays for incorporating the Tokyo-based company's in-plane switching (IPS-Pro) LCD technology in its displays. Compared to conventional LCDs, IPS-Pro improves light transfer by a factor of 1.25 and offers two times the contrast ratio (diagnostic contrast ratio greater than 400:1) with a wider viewing angle of 120°, according to Barco.

Barco has launched its Coronis Fusion 6MP DL 30-inch color LCD with Hitachi's IPS-Pro LCD technology. Suitable for multiuser viewing, the display offers DICOM-calibrated luminance of 800 cd/m² for simultaneous reading of color, grayscale, and fused modalities. It also features Uniform Luminance Technology (ULT), an intelligent backlight design, and Barco's MediCal QAWeb for fully automated image quality assurance.

Finally, Barco announced that starting January 1, 2008, a five-year warranty, which includes coverage of LCD panels, will come standard with its full range of color and grayscale displays.
