Dear Advanced Visualization Insider,
Computer-aided detection (CAD) software continues to show benefits for detecting lung nodules on CT studies. In two papers presented at the 2006 RSNA meeting in Chicago, researchers judged CAD to be highly effective in its role as a second reader.
A team of Italian researchers found that CAD was very sensitive in highlighting actionable nodules, while a Canadian research team said the software was especially useful for evaluating small nodules. In addition, the Canadian researchers reported that CAD particularly benefited less experienced readers, a finding echoed by an American research team in earlier coverage from the meeting.
