Graphics processing unit (GPU) technology developer Nvidia has named imaging artificial intelligence (AI) start-up Subtle Medical as the healthcare category winner of its Inception Award at the firm's annual GPU Technology Conference in San Jose, CA.
Founded by imaging researchers and AI developers from Stanford University, Subtle is developing AI algorithms aimed at enhancing the acquisition, reconstruction, processing, and analysis of medical images. The company is working on algorithms that could, for example, enable PET scans to be performed at just 1% of current radiotracer dose levels and facilitate the use of gadolinium-based contrast agents in MRI at just 10% of current dose levels.
Subtle won the award after a five-minute presentation to a panel of high-profile judges and a crowd of 650 people on March 26. The company will split $1 million with the two other Inception Award winners: robotics developer Kinema Systems and store checkout-free systems provider AiFi, Nvidia said.
