A series of news reports are claiming that IBM has been laying off workers from its IBM Watson Health unit.
The layoffs have occurred at multiple sites, including Dallas and Cleveland, which were the headquarters of companies that IBM has acquired as it seeks to build the Watson Health business. For example, population health firm Phytel was based in Dallas and was acquired by IBM in 2015.
Such deals have doubled the size of IBM Watson Health, and other recent acquisitions include Explorys of Cleveland and PACS developer Merge Healthcare of Chicago. The job cuts have reportedly also affected these firms, according to news reports.
