Firms partner to bring blockchain to radiology

Medical Diagnostic Web (MDW) said it will collaborate with Bitfury and Longenesis, two blockchain technology companies, to develop a new platform for securely storing and sharing medical imaging data.

MDW recently debuted its blockchain-based software application at RSNA 2018. The blockchain marketplace allows radiologists and radiology groups to establish business relationships and receive immediate compensation. Joining forces with Bitfury and Longenesis, MDW now aims to improve upon its blockchain marketplace for radiology.

The new infrastructure will add to MDW's current blockchain features such as built-in data anonymization, advanced encryption, artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms, and user permissioning -- further enhancing its safety and efficiency, according to the companies. The platform may also help resolve issues in dealing with medical imaging data, such as delayed access to services and results, the companies said.

MDW, Bitfury, and Longenesis announced their partnership at this week's Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) annual meeting in Orlando, FL.
