Thanks to support from the India-Israel Industrial R&D and Technological Innovation Fund (I4F), artificial intelligence (AI) software developer Zebra Medical Vision and telemedicine equipment provider HealthNet Global (HNG) will be teaming up on a project to validate and implement medical imaging AI tools in India.
The $4.9 million project has the goal of developing technology to serve as a primary screening method for major diseases such as tuberculosis in large-scale screenings, with researchers codeveloping and clinically validating radiology AI tools in India. The firms will focus on modifying existing AI algorithms to make them more suitable for the Indian population. Once completed, AI algorithms will immediately provide alerts when they detect the presence of critical radiology findings, according to the companies.
As part of the Apollo Hospitals Group, HNG will make use of the clinical depth and breadth of the Apollo Hospitals network in India and also collaborate closely with Apollo Radiology International, according to the firms. For its part, Zebra will provide its deep-learning algorithms for detection of brain bleeds on head CT scans, pneumothorax on chest x-rays, breast cancer on mammograms, osteoporosis on CT scans, as well as 40 other conditions, they said.
