Radiation therapy provider Varian Medical Systems has announced an agreement to acquire radiation oncology information systems provider IMPAC Medical Systems. The deal will allow Varian to offer a broad range of healthcare information products for clinical, administrative, outcomes, and decision support purposes, according to Varian.
Mountain View, CA-based IMPAC is growing at a rate of 30% per year, and expects to have revenues of $28 million for the fiscal year ending September 29, according to Varian. IMPAC, which will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Varian, will have responsibility for integrating and marketing Varian’s VARiS clinical management software in addition to marketing its current product lines. This combined software business, which will be known as Varian IMPAC Medical Systems, is expected to have fiscal 2000 revenues approaching $50 million.
The agreement is expected to close within 60 days and is subject to regulatory clearance and satisfaction of customary conditions, according to Palo Alto, CA-based Varian.
